Dimension pre-emergent is an excellent choice to prevent annual bluegrass (poa annua), Henbit, hairy bittercress, chickweed, and other annuals if you are NOT SEEDING/OVERSEEDING your lawn. It is a primary part of the fall strategy down south for longer protection due to milder winters. The active ingredient dithiopyr is also one of the best weed killers for crabgrass. It both prevents and kills young crabgrass.
The best time to apply dithiopyr is when soil temperatures are below 70F and above 50F. This will give you approximately 4 months of pre-emergence protection if you follow the recommended application rate of 4lbs/1,000 sq ft. Dithiopyr is among the best weed killers that won't kill grass.
You can use this pre-emergent weed and feed killer in the spring or fall. If you've already applied prodiamine in the spring, dithiopyr is an excellent option. For those with warm season grass, also consider Specticle FLO pre-emergent.

Does Dithiopyr need to be watered in?

Can I apply Essential-G on the same day as Dithiopyr?
- Yes. We recommend that Essential-G be applied before Dithiopyr.
Can I apply liquids and Dithiopyr on the same day?
- Yes. We recommend applying granular products before liquids. So you would apply Dithiopyr and other granulars, followed by your liquid products.
